Have your Google Rankings dropped?

Have you Google Rankings dropped significantly? The question is, “why has my Google ranking dropped so much?” Here are several reasons why your site might be ranking lower than it did previously.

Size or loading time of your home page: If your home page loads slowly, you might have site visitors clicking the “Back” button quickly, which can result in lower rankings.
Outbound links: If you have lots of outbound links (links that point away from your website to another site), you may be hurting your rankings.
Inbound links: Top sites have lots of other sites pointing to them. How many links do you have pointing to your site?
AdSense: Many sites which use AdSense have reported to have lower rankings than before using AdSense
Do you regularly update the site: Sites with regular updates tend to have higher rankings and Page Rank (PR)
Using AdWords: I am not sure about this one. Some report that if they are using AdWords that their site won’t rank. I have not seen this to be the case, but cannot say whether this is a true Google practice.
How old is your site? Older sites tend to perform better than brand new sites. Also, if you are going to have a brand new site, then you should register it for more than one year. Google doesn’t seem to like sites that are only registered for one year at a time.
Do you use “nofollow” tags properly? There is no reason for Google’s spider to read certain pages in your site which have nothing to do with your SEO efforts. A log-in page or an advanced search page might be links that you want to put a “nofollow” tag on the text leading to them.
Location of host server: If you are using some super cheap, foreign company to host your site, you might find that Google doesn’t rank you. Google will prefer US hosted sites for US searches.
Redirects or page forwards: Google’s spider doesn’t like to follow forwards or redirects. Take the time to make sure that you use Google’s preferred redirect process for pages that lead to other pages.
Purchased links or links from link farms: Some say that Google will penalize you for having links leading to your site that you purchased. This might be true as Google would rather that you have links built “organically.” However, I am still not sure on this one. If this was true penalty, wouldn’t you go and purchase links to your competitors’ sites from link farms to make their rankings go down?
Are you listed on DMOZ in the Open Source Directory? Google tends to love sites that are listed on DMOZ. Perhaps because they know that a human acually reviewed your site. Does Google trust humans than their spider?
Do you have a Yahoo! Directory listing? Like being listed in DMOZ, being listed in Yahoo!’s directory means that a human has looked at your site. Google seems to like this.
Do you have RSS feeds on your site? Could your RSS feed be feeding some scrap sites thus penalizing your site for duplicate content?
Page Rank: Your page rank is a direct measure of what Google thinks of your site. It is a measure from 1-10. Sites with higher page ranks typically will rank higher than sites with a lower page rank.
Parked or pointing domains: Some argue that having domains parked or forwarded to your main domain may hurt the main domain’s rankings. I don’t agree with this theory with regards to parked domains.
Archiving producing duplicate content: Some forums, blogs, and other scripts produce an archive file after a certain date passes. This file often has a static URL. Perhaps this is causing a duplicate content penalty? This is not very likely in my opinion but it certainly would depend on the quality.
