Know your web site target audience

July 13, 2009

This is a really important question when designing a website.  Some may want to sell products directly on the web, still others may want the audience to contact them and others may just want to deliver company information to the public.  All websites should, however, have a target.  This helps to keep them centered, focused, easy to navigate and well-organized.

“A great question to ask yourself as you get started would be, “is the market for your product or service geographically local?” Targeting local markets can be one of the most successful ways to optimize your website.”

Five questions to get you started

  1. Where is your customer?  Are they local to you or State-wide?  Are they nationwide?
  2. How old is your client?
  3. Who is your client?   What kinds of things do they do?  What do they have in common?
  4. Why does your client use your product or service?
  5. When does your client buy from you?  What triggers their buying decision?
